Bio

Born in 1974 in Lublin, Poland. Lives and works in Switzerland.

Asia Dusong is a multidisciplinary artist who explores painting, ceramics and illustration. She paints and creates in response to what she feels in the moment. This freedom gives her work a rich diversity of forms and modes of expression, without seeking to fit it into a single style. What connects her works is a shared pursuit: to evoke poetry, lightness and an emotion that leaves room for the imagination and suspends time.

Her artistic world also draws on memories of her childhood. She remembers the faces of the women around her, their hands busy with all kinds of crafts, their precise and familiar gestures. In this atmosphere of calm and serenity, time sometimes seemed to stand still. These memories of gestures and materials — leather, wool — run through her work today, sometimes consciously, sometimes intuitively.

This relationship with materials is particularly apparent in her ceramic practice, where she enjoys combining them, contrasting them and bringing them into dialogue. Leather and wool, in particular, echo her childhood in Poland. In the patient work of making beads, she also finds a continuity with the gestures that accompanied her childhood: each bead in her long necklaces is shaped by hand, one by one, in an almost meditative repetition.

Ceramics

Her ceramics have to create an emotion. Asia likes mixing materials: leather and wood, which surrounded her childhood in Poland, come back in her pieces. Her long bead necklaces, each bead made by hand, echo the jewellery little girls dream of.

Painting

She paints what she feels at that precise moment, which makes her work deliberately varied. She would like her images to carry lightness and poetry, and to help move beyond what confines us.
